We enjoyed making our decisions on the landscaping portion of this remodel project. We hired Dot Palm Landscaping to purchase the field cut plants, deliver the plants to our house, and plant them. They were at the house for two days. They planted a total of 39 trees - 36 field cut areca palms, 2 roebelenii palms, and a bismarck palm, which is a very popular tree for homes on Duck Key because of the pale blue/green large leafs.
Dot Palm used 18 areca palms as a screen, instead of a fence, for each side of the property from the street to the water's edge. These plants are 12 feet high now and will grow slowly to about 15 feet maximum which gives this luxury home on Duck Key plenty of privacy. The areca palm is very beautiful and maintenance free. Our existing Washingtonian Palms produce food for our Florida Keys songbirds.
The new trees are already on an irrigation drip. When the island of Duck Key connects to the central sewer plant the island will be getting a "gray" water line for irrigation. The cost to water your plants on Duck Key will be so much less than other homes in the Florida Keys because we are able to recycle some of the waste water from the central sewer facility.
The Dot Palm company is located in Marathon, Florida. John Harrison is the owner. He has hired the most courteous and talented people in the Florida Keys. John and one of his crew managers, Glen Hutchinson, were able to help us make decisions on the best drought resistant Florida Keys' trees to install on our luxury property on Duck Key. John and Glen were meticulous in positioning each areca palm down the property's border, and the same for the 2 roebenii palms and the bismarck palm. Now, that's a testimony John should use on his own website! A big thank you to John, Glen, Jeff, and Javier!
