These are the reasons we wanted to buy this house in the Florida Keys.
This house on Duck Key has a great floor plan. The living room and kitchen are one large room with the view of the backyard - a clean canal. The developer of Duck Key, Bryan W. Newkirk in 1951, was a genius. The canals are deep and water flows freely in and out from the ocean. There are no "dead end" canals. To read the history of Duck Key and other very interesting Florida Keys' facts be sure to see this website and this website also.
The streets are curved which give the property owners more privacy than a straight street. There is very little light pollution because there are no street lights.
The house has a large garage. A large covered carport. A large screened upstairs porch. Exterior stairs. Upstairs, the canal view wall (living room/kitchen) is all glass - 3 sets of sliding glass doors open onto this large screened porch. It has a 2nd story balcony that surrounds the whole house. There is room in the backyard for a pool, if the next owner so desires to have one installed.
There are two bedrooms and each bedroom have large closets and full bathrooms. The washer and dryer are upstairs. It has central air conditioning with heat.
The seawall has dockage for a very large boat and a flats fishing boat. There are two levels to make stepping from the boat to the dock safe and comfortable. The higher seawall is for a large boat and the lower seawall is for the flats or jet ski type boat. There is a swim ladder to use when getting out of the water.
You can fish from your backyard. Tarpon are caught at night. Small snappers can be caught during the day - keep those grandchildren busy! There is a permitted bathroom in the downstairs enclosure.
After we purchased the house, we were invited to join the Club Duck Key. This social club has 125 members, Duck Key property owners only. As you can see by visiting the website, there is a large - heated in the winter and cooled in the summer - swimming pool, jacuzzi, 2 clay tennis courts, and pool table. As a member you can host your own private parties at this club after getting approval from the social committee. During the winter months many social events occur and these events are lots of fun. The Club Duck Key members just couldn't be any friendlier or nicer people. We truly enjoy ourselves at these socials because we get to meet so many interesting people. Since we are members, we can transfer our membership to the new owner of our house.
Another interesting website to read for more history about Duck Key (by the way, The Adlers, the webmaster, are members of Club Duck Key) is this link www.duckkeyonline.com.
